Computer Gaming and addictions

Is an addiction. A powerful one. Tell someone you’re addicted to games, will they believe you? will they hell. To most people, an addiction is something like drugs, like alcoholics, like smokers (to a lesser extent). Not many people see the computer nerd who has bleached white skin as an addict. But he is, he’s addicted to the internet, to computers, to games. There’s nothing he loves more than to sink his teeth into a brand new game, to get his next shot of euphoria.

Again, however, people often misread addictions. For example, i know a group of people who regularly go out on a saturday and get abso-fucking-lutely wasted. They get drunk to the point, where you could walk over, pick them up and rape them mindlessly for a few hours before they sobered up enough to realise what was happening. but you mention to any of these that they are alcoholics, that they are addicted to alcohol and they will deny it until their last breath. An alcoholic, they will insist, drinks every single day, and becomes completely obsessed with drinking. I say no, they are alcoholics, because they wait until every saturday to drink, and if they can’t afford the alcohol they “borrow” some. I believe this is mis-education. a failing of our school system to tell these people that they are addicted to alcohol.

i maintain we need to show people what addictions are. I will admit that i have an addiction. I’m addicted to the internet, i’m addicted to computer games, i’m addicted to a website called 4chan.org. I am a manic forumer, and an avid pyro. I am addicted to a lot of things, to life. But wake up people, and see how you are killing yourselves with alcohol
